Who Was Guts Mother
Guts mother, Casca, was a member of the Band of the Hawk and a skilled warrior. She became pregnant with Guts after a forced encounter with Griffith, the band's leader, during a period of political tension and personal conflict within the mercenary group.
Why Was She Hanged
After Griffith's imprisonment, the Band of the Hawk was disbanded and its members scattered. Casca, pregnant and vulnerable, was captured by agents of the Midland nobility who sought to punish Griffith's allies. She was publicly hanged as a form of retribution and intimidation, a brutal act meant to demonstrate the consequences of loyalty to the fallen leader.
The Impact on Guts
The hanging of Casca is a foundational trauma in Guts' life, fueling his lifelong hatred of Griffith and the God Hand. The event is depicted in the manga and anime as a moment of profound loss that shapes his solitary, vengeful path. For more context on the Band of the Hawk's fate, see the Berserk manga overview.
