Who Performed Elmo's Voice
Elmo's voice is primarily performed by puppeteer Kevin Clash. He became the main performer for the red Muppet character in the late 1980s and voiced Elmo for many years.
Kevin Clash and the Role
Kevin Clash joined the Sesame Street team and took over the character, shaping Elmo's high-pitched, gentle voice. His work helped make Elmo one of the most recognizable figures on the show.
Other Performers and Legacy
After Kevin Clash stepped away, other puppeteers, including Ryan Dillon, continued performing Elmo. The character remains a central part of Sesame Street, with the voice role passed to new performers over time.
