Date JFK Was Shot

President John F. Kennedy was shot on Friday, November 22, 1963, in Dallas, Texas. The assassination took place at approximately 12:30 p.m. Central Time as his motorcade passed the Texas School Book Depository. He was pronounced dead at Parkland Memorial Hospital at 1:00 p.m.

Key Details of the Shooting

Lee Harvey Oswald fired three shots from the sixth floor of the depository. One bullet struck Kennedy in the back and exited through his throat. A second bullet caused the fatal head wound. Texas Governor John Connally, also in the car, was seriously wounded. The event was captured on film and broadcast worldwide.

Aftermath and Investigation

Oswald was arrested within hours and charged with the murder of Kennedy and Dallas patrolman J.D. Tippit. Two days later, nightclub owner Jack Ruby shot Oswald while he was being transferred. The Warren Commission concluded Oswald acted alone, a finding still debated today. The assassination reshaped U.S. politics and security protocols.
