Who Was the Unabomber

The Unabomber was the media name for Ted Kaczynski, a former mathematician who carried out a nationwide bombing campaign in the United States. His attacks spanned nearly two decades and targeted individuals connected to universities and airlines.

Victims and Attacks

Kaczynski’s campaign resulted in three deaths and numerous injuries. His homemade bombs were sent through the mail to professors, airline passengers, and others he accused of threatening modern technology and the environment.

Capture and Aftermath

The FBI ended the Unabomber killings after Kaczynski’s brother recognized his writing style and tipped off authorities. Kaczynski was arrested in 1996, pleaded guilty, and was sentenced to life in prison without parole. For more details, see the FBI case summary at https://www.fbi.gov/history/famous-cases/unabomber
