Who Were Timothy Treadwell and Amie Huguenard

Timothy Treadwell was an American bear enthusiast and documentary filmmaker. Amie Huguenard was his girlfriend and frequent travel companion. Together they spent extended periods living in close proximity to wild grizzly bears in Katmai National Park, Alaska, documenting their experiences on video.

Their Work and Lifestyle

Treadwell founded an organization called Grizzly People and documented bear behavior for over a decade. He and Huguenard recorded extensive footage of bears, aiming to challenge negative perceptions of grizzlies. Their work included close-range observations and personal encounters with the animals they studied.

Death and Legacy

In October 2003, Treadwell and Huguenard were killed by a grizzly bear in Katmai National Park. Their remains were discovered later that month. Their story gained wider attention through the documentary Grizzly Man, which used Treadwell’s own footage and interviews to recount his life and death.
