Main Characters in The Outsiders

The novel centers on two rival groups: the Greasers and the Socs. The Greasers, including Ponyboy Curtis, Johnny Cade, and Dallas Winston, come from the poorer east side. The Socs, such as Cherry Valance and Marcia, represent the wealthier west side.

Ponyboy Curtis and Johnny Cade

Ponyboy is the thoughtful narrator and youngest Curtis brother. Johnny is his quiet, loyal best friend, who struggles with abuse and fear. Their bond drives much of the plot after they run away following a violent encounter.

Dallas Winston and Supporting Figures

Dallas, or Dally, is a tough, street-smart Greaser with a troubled past. Other key figures include Darry Curtis, the responsible older brother, and Randy Adderson, a Soc who questions the conflict. For more background, see the overview at https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Outsiders_(novel)
