On Instagram, the swipe up link is a call-to-action sticker that lets viewers move quickly from a story to an external URL, making it one of the most direct paths from discovery to action. If you are wondering how this feature works, who can use it, and how to make it drive measurable results, this guide explains the mechanics, requirements, and best practices in detail.
What Is the Swipe Up Link on Instagram
The swipe up link is a tappable sticker that appears at the bottom of an Instagram Story. It enables users to visit an external website, blog, landing page, or app install without leaving the app experience. For brands and creators, it is a high-intent touchpoint that connects story content to conversion paths such as sales, signups, downloads, or appointments. Because stories disappear after 24 hours, brands often rely on this link to capture short-lived attention and convert it into lasting engagement or revenue.
Eligibility and Account Requirements
Access to the swipe up link depends on account size, verification status, and partnership standing. Instagram limits the feature to accounts that meet specific thresholds and maintains a curated list of eligible accounts in business and creator tools.
- Accounts must have at least 10,000 followers.
- Business or Creator accounts are required; personal profiles cannot add the sticker.
- Instagram may grant swipe up access to smaller accounts that are in good standing and part of the Partner Program.
Verification and Partner Programs
Verified accounts and partner program members typically gain earlier or broader access. Even with eligibility, the feature can be restricted if your account violates community guidelines or experiences suspicious activity. Maintaining a clean record and consistent posting schedule supports long term access.
