Oldest Quarterback to Start a Game
Tom Brady holds the record as the oldest quarterback to start a regular-season NFL game. He started at age 45 for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2022, surpassing previous benchmarks for longevity at the quarterback position.
Notable Older Quarterbacks Who Started
Before Brady, George Blanda was among the oldest quarterbacks to start and play significant snaps. He continued starting into his mid-40s, and his career is frequently cited when discussing age records at quarterback.
Why Age Matters at Quarterback
Starting at an older age is rare because the position demands speed, arm strength, and decision-making. Advances in training, sports science, and nutrition have helped quarterbacks extend their careers and start games later than in previous eras. For more details on NFL records, see NFL.com.
