Constitutional Convention of 1787

In 1787, delegates met in Philadelphia to address weaknesses in the Articles of Confederation. The result was the United States Constitution, which established the structure of the federal government and the system of checks and balances.

Civil Rights Act of 1964

The Civil Rights Act of 1964 outlawed discrimination based on race, color, religion, sex, or national origin. It ended segregation in public places and was a landmark achievement of the civil rights movement.

2000 Presidential Election

The 2000 presidential election between Al Gore and George W. Bush was decided by the Supreme Court in Bush v. Gore. The case halted the Florida recount and effectively determined the outcome of the election.

These events shaped American governance and civil rights. For more context, see the National Archives overview of the Constitution at https://www.archives.gov/founding-docs/constitution.
