Early Life and Career

Kurt Donald Cobain was born on February 20, 1967, in Aberdeen, Washington. He formed the band Nirvana in 1987 with bassist Krist Novoselic and drummer Dave Grohl. The group became a defining act of the Seattle grunge scene.

Musical Achievements

Nirvana’s 1991 album Nevermind, featuring the hit single “Smells Like Teen Spirit,” brought grunge into the mainstream. Cobain was known for his raw vocal style and confessional songwriting. The band won a Grammy Award for Best Alternative Music Album for In Utero in 1994.

Legacy and Death
