Origins and Creation

The Hollywood Walk of Fame was created in 1960 to honor outstanding achievements in the entertainment industry. The idea was promoted by the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce and local business leaders to attract tourists and celebrate the area's cultural significance.

Selection Process and Categories

Stars are awarded in five categories: Motion Pictures, Television, Recording, Radio, and Live Theatre. Nominees must meet specific criteria, including professional achievement and a demonstrated record of community involvement. The selection is managed by a committee and requires funding for the creation and installation of the star.

Design and Maintenance

Each star features a five-pointed pink terrazzo star embedded in the sidewalk, surrounded by a bronze circle engraved with the honoree's name and category. The Walk is maintained by the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce, and new stars are added regularly as part of the ongoing tradition.

For more details on the Walk's history and guidelines, visit the official Hollywood Chamber of Commerce page at Hollywood Chamber of Commerce.
