What Is the Doctor's Real Name?
The Doctor is a Time Lord from the long-running British series Doctor Who. The character's actual name is never clearly stated in the show, and most stories treat it as a mystery.
Known Aliases and Revealed Names
The Doctor often uses simple aliases such as John Smith, Doctor Who, and The Oncoming Storm. In the 2013 episode "The Name of the Doctor," the character's spoken name is shown on the TARDIS console, but it is not clearly heard.
Why the Name Remains a Secret
Showrunners and actors have described the Doctor's true name as deliberately hidden to preserve mystery. The name is treated as a secret that even other Time Lords rarely learn.
