Main Voice Cast
Despicable Me 2 features Steve Carell as Gru, the former supervillain turned father. Kristen Wiig voices Lucy Wilde, an anti-virus agent who recruits Gru for a new mission. The film also stars Benjamin Bratt as the charismatic villain El Macho, whose personality contrasts with Gru’s awkward family life.
Returning and New Characters
Several actors reprise their roles from the first film. Miranda Cosgrove, Dana Gaier, and Elsie Fisher return as Margo, Edith, and Agnes, the three adopted daughters. New characters include Ken Jeong as the eccentric scientist Dr. Nefario and Steve Coogan as the television host Perry the news anchor.
Behind the Voices
The cast was chosen for their comedy timing and ability to create distinct character voices. Carell based Gru on exaggerated villain archetypes while keeping him relatable. Wiig brought improvisational energy to Lucy Wilde, and Bratt modeled El Macho on classic action stars with a comedic twist.
