Is Deliver Us From Evil Based on a True Story
The 2014 horror film Deliver Us From Evil is inspired by actual events described in a book by former NYPD detective Ralph Sarchie. The movie adapts his accounts of paranormal investigations tied to criminal cases in New York City.
What Real Events Inspired the Story
Sarchie and his partner documented encounters they linked to possession, demonic activity, and disturbing crimes. The film combines several of these cases into a single narrative, adding dramatic elements while keeping the core premise rooted in Sarchie's reported experiences.
Where the Film’s Story Comes From
The screenplay draws from Sarchie's memoir, which details his work on unusual cases and his interpretation of supernatural involvement. While the movie changes names and details, it follows the general arc of his investigations and the role of faith in his approach.
